Winter Break: Christmas in Hanoi

Best of ExplorersWeb 2009 Awards: Park Young Seok, new route on Mount Everest.

Climbing all the 14×8000ers and walking to both poles, in 2005 Korean Park Young-Seok completed the world’s first Adventure Grand Slam. With him at the North Pole were two of his closest friends; accomplished high altitude mountaineers Oh Hee-Joon and Lee Hyun-Jo.

A Look Back at 2009

Sorry for the long absence, friends.  It has been an incredibly hectic semester.  One might even say that it’s been the worst semester I’ve ever had in grad school, but my very first semester at the ripe old age of 21 was probably just as bad, it was just so long ago that I can barely remember back that far. So, instead of whining about all the things in 2009 that stunk royally, I am going to focus on the positive and share some of the exciting moments of this past year, both significant and mundane: -  Won a summer fellowship. -  Wrote 2 dissertation chapters on that fellowship

Air marshals back in the spotlight

A federal air marshal was not on Northwest Flight 253 when a passenger allegedly tried to detonate explosives. But the agency said the incident prompted it to enhance airport screening procedures and put more air marshals aboard flights.
