Eating in Munich

ornaments for sale at a Christmas market in Munich Last week, I literally pigged out.  I was in Munich for four days and ate pork products at least three times a day.  Despite articles like this one touting Munich’s cutting-edge food scene, I was quite happy to stick with eating the traditional Bavarian specialties that are offered everywhere in town, which meant a lot of beer, dumplings ( knodel ) and pig. weisswurst with suesser senf (sweet mustard) and pretzel To start my day, I’d seek out weisswurst (white sausage), which, according to my colleagues in Munich, must be eaten only in the morning.  Weisswurst also has the distinction of being the only boiled sausage in the world that I love.  The veal-and-pork filling has a smooth, slightly spongy texture that brings to mind nursery food — very comforting, especially when it’s snowy and cold outside.  The accompanying suesser senf (sweet mustard) is so good that I’ve used it on non- weisswurst -related sandwiches.   Several Munichers told me you’re supposed to suck the filling out of the sausage casing, but I opted for the pansy option of cutting open the skin and pulling out the sausage filling with a fork.  (I didn’t feel as lame about my technique after I saw other German speakers doing the same). The photo above shows the organic version I especially enjoyed at Munchner Schmarkert , a small caff in the Vitkualienmarkt .

Going to the North Pole

By Linda Tancs The North Pole is a lot closer than you think–as in North Pole, New York, in the High Peaks area of New York State’s Adirondack Park.  Like its more northern cousins (e.g., Alaska and Lapland’s Santa Claus Village), the New York version celebrates its famous moniker with a Christmas themed family amusement park sporting  rides, shows and shops for children and adults of all ages.  For those dreaming of a white Christmas, this is the place to be.  On any given year, the weather data suggests a 96% chance of any amount of snow for the holiday.  Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow–and Merry Christmas! ‘Sex And The City 2′ Trailer Arrives In Time To Bring Holiday Cheer

from MTV.com: Slip on your Manolos and grab a Cosmo, girls, because the first  “Sex and the City 2″ trailer is here! The nearly minute-and-a-half trailer reveals few plot points, but the sequel looks like another fun- and fashion-filled romp, centering around a girlfriend getaway to the desert. The gal pals then hop on a plane and jet to the desert to “get carried far away,” which explains the foursome being  spotted in Morocco back in November

Nuremberg

Nuremberg A day of contrasts icy rain & warm spirits; Touring places full of Nazi history & christmas market; Ancient churches with unadorned trees nor Nativty scene & toy museums; hot gluehwein with sausages & Ginger bread with no Ginger; children singing with halos while booing an angel with a red nose; fancy dinner & local band-tuba, carinet, accordian singing Octoberfest songs at Christmas; 6′4″ dancing singing 18 year old hanging with a joyfully playful me ! The day began with a scrumptious breakfast then on to the city. We visited the museum all about Nazism and the Nuremberg trials. It is located in a huge collisium which was never completed
