By Linda Tancs The North Pole is a lot closer than you think–as in North Pole, New York, in the High Peaks area of New York State’s Adirondack Park. Like its more northern cousins (e.g., Alaska and Lapland’s Santa Claus Village), the New York version celebrates its famous moniker with a Christmas themed family amusement park sporting rides, shows and shops for children and adults of all ages. For those dreaming of a white Christmas, this is the place to be. On any given year, the weather data suggests a 96% chance of any amount of snow for the holiday. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow–and Merry Christmas! Pocketbooks are well named and they are essential when you go on holiday to a country where they don’t talk to much English on a regular basis. For example Finland

Fact: A bus shelter is in fact a shelter in London (probably other countries). Plexiglass makes up one wall, while a shop or wall makes a second.

I took these photos a few days ago when Istanbul was still under fog but spring like days continue and today is not an exception (for spring days but not for foggy days). My god, spring days bring such a pressure of unrealized potentialities and I better sit indoors and wait for the end of these beautiful days. Today is not different.

I love looking at people’s travel photos . I don’t necessarily need the three-hour commentary that sometimes comes with seeing a friend’s recent vacay pics, but I do love the photos. Not only is it wonderful to see parts of the world I’ve never been to, but it can be so interesting to see those places through someone else’s lens

By Linda Tancs Biltmore House, that glorious French Renaissance chateau in Asheville, North Carolina, was opened to friends by George Washington Vanderbilt in 1895. For those of you with champagne wishes and caviar dreams, you can experience the grandiosity of a Christmas at Biltmore by visiting the seasonal attraction, now in its 35th year. Daytime tours include a walk about Biltmore House, seranaded all the while with music of the season. The event also includes a tour of the Gardens, the Winery with complimentary wine tasting, River Bend Farm and Barnyard. Of course, the illumination of the house and grounds is a must-see as well. For the past 26 years, therefore, Biltmore has offered Candlelight Christmas Evenings, a separate ticketed event. Guests tour through rooms lit by twinkling lights and firelight, reflected in thousands of ornaments. Live entertainment inside Biltmore House is included. New this year is the restoration and preservation of the magnificent Louis XV Suite in Biltmore House, the birthplace of two generations of the Vanderbilt family. Buy your tickets online and print them at home. Meet the season in high style!
